What Do I Do With These?

I was so excited to win this Sonia Kashuk makeup brush set giveaway from Dorkys at Dry As Toast when she was a featured blogger on The Secret is in the Sauce.

Aren't they pretty? Now, how do I use them??

I was raised in a very conservative household. Makeup was not encouraged. Shaving of any sort was what shallow people did. I was nearly 15 before I screwed up the courage to shave under my arms and boy was I glad I did. I participated in an outdoor concert that summer and the directors did inspections to make sure we were all clean and tidy. Ewww.
It was much later before I felt that I could risk the wrath of God and shave my legs. My mom did take good care of herself and when I asked why she shaved but didn't let us, her reply was: "Oh, sweetie, I wish I had never started."

 Brush # 1

Anyway, so I didn't grow up with a lot of beautifying experience.

Brush #2

Now I've won these brushes and I feel like I should do something with them.

Brush #3

Tell me what they are all supposed to do.

 Brush #4

If Beauty is in the eye of the beholder is good make up in the hand of the applier?
Of course it is!

Brush #5

I am in a heap of trouble. So, please help a girl out. I will send a treat from my African collection to a random commenter who offers helpful advice.

  1. How fun! I love make-up brushes! I didn't really get into make-up until a bit after college. Aging did that to me! lol...but it is fun! Let me know if you need some tips! :) I can't imagine it is high priority in Africa, right??? lol But you are in the States now, right?

  2. oh my that was funny. My mother sells Mary Kay Cosmetics and I don't wear makeup either. I do think that I can help you out for what each is for...but dont hold me to it. From left to right in the top picture. The first is a blending brush. The second is for eye shadow, then you use #1 to take off the extra or blend in the two colors you may have used. The third is a lip brush. This is for lipstick, lip gloss, or what not. Do not use this for chapstick or for blistex because the oils will never come out. Oops, my bad. The fourth is a shaper brush. This is to make sure the hard to reach or more delicate areas are properly colored. Again, never used one but pretty sure that is what it is for. The last is a powder brush. This can be used for blush or for a loose powder. But don't use them for both.

that is all I have...and I don't want any special gift I just want you to know that even those of us "natural beauties" should always know what the "brushes" are for.

  3. No help here, I'm afraid, as I don't ever use makeup. Men are acceptable without makeup; why can't we women accept ourselves as is? Don't mind me; that's my own particular hobbyhorse. :-) But I'm wondering about the ends of those brushes--are those protrusions just for decoration, or do they help you grip them?

  4. I wear makeup, but I'm no make-up brush expert. I'm thinking what Mae Rae said sounds good.

    Have fun trying them out!

  5. I don't wear much makeup and when I do, I am usually applying it with a finger or q-tip. What a bunch of help we all are, huh? They are very pretty though.

I am also lucky that with my blonde hair, I don't have to shave my legs that frequently...

    Oh well, good luck!!

  7. I just started using brushes a couple of years ago. I love to use them but I'm certainly no pro! And those are gorgeous. They'd be pretty just as decorations.

  8. Besides using one for a little blush and eye shadow, I swear they are best used as

    1. Tickling little faces.
    2. Soothing cute little toes.

    Just my two cents.

  9. I'd just use them to decorate the visitor's bathroom.

  10. Debbie, YOU WON!!

Contact me at laiah1773@gmail.com with your address.

A couple people thought I could use them as decorations. Hmm, an idea but....I love them too much! I will be decorating my dresser with them so I can apply makeup. Yes, Katie, even in a village.

Mae Rae, you gave me great advice. Thanks!
